TRUTH ABOUT OUR SACRED BURIAL GROUND
.. don't believe all you read about Glen Cove!

Occasionally, well-meaning residents of the Glen Cove neighborhood have repeated false rumors.  We want to be clear about the facts. Please take note:
False Claim
In Truth
"...a Buddhist nun fasting in the site is a publicity stunt by the Inter-Tribal Council." Many Buddhist monks around the world have a long record of support for Native American causes and spiritual struggles.  About a dozen monks participated in the Bay Area Shellmound Peace Walk November 7-25, 2005. Following that walk, and on her own initiative, one of these monks, Catharina Renholm, from Sweden, contacted the Vallejo Inter-Tribal Council and asked for our support for her week-long fast in Glen Cove December 5-9, 2005.  She specifically asked us not to contact the media, and we complied, until her spiritual vigil was threatened when a neighbor called local police to look into her perfectly legal activities at the burial site.  Times-Herald writer Sarah Rohrs' story and photographer Mike Jory's picture helped create a groundswell of public concern and a protective layer of public awareness when a spiritual ceremony came under threat.
"I know that the Vallejo Inter-Tribal Council wants to hold pow wows at the site..." The Vallejo Inter-Tribal Council specifically rejects the idea of pow wows on the Glen Cove Sacred Burial Ground.  We have never voiced any interest in using the Burial Ground for a pow wow, nor have any of our members, as far as we know, spoken privately or puclicly of such a violation of the sacred space where our ancestors rest.  If Ms. Parker or other residents of Glen Cove want to characterize a small sacred ceremonial gathering with hand drums as a pow wow, we suggest they learn a little bit about Native ceremonial customs, and get used to the notion that living above a graveyard is going to require cross-cultural understanding and respect.
..the Inter-Tribal Council is interested in building a casino on the Sacred Burial Ground. The Vallejo Inter-Tribal Council specifically rejects the idea of building a casino on the Glen Cove Sacred Burial Ground. We have never voiced any interest in using the Burial Ground for a casino, nor have any of our members to our knowledge, spoken privately or publicly in favor of such a violation of the sacred space where our ancestors rest.
